Harper Student Murdered

Harper High School has lost its first student since our shows about the high school aired in February.

A sophomore named Darryl Green was found dead behind an abandoned building just four blocks west of the school. Chicago Police and the medical examiner’s office say he’d been killed by a gunshot wound to the head. He was 17.

His death was ruled a homicide, and police say they’re actively investigating it, though nobody’s been charged.

Staff who we talked to at Harper said Green didn’t have a reputation for getting into trouble, and mostly described him as a quiet kid.

We are so very sad to hear about his death, and to hear that the students, staff and families of Harper are once again carrying the burdens of the violence around them. Our thoughts go out to Darryl Green’s family, friends and to everyone at Harper.
